Our Nursery class, is recommended for youngsters aged seven to twelve years. Upon joining this class, candidates will automatically be enrolled into the GB National Boxing Awards Programme and begin their Standard Award. Likewise for our Intermediate class, is recommended for youngsters from thirteen to seventeen years, who will also begin with the Standard Award. Progression from the Nursery to the Intermediate class is determined predominantly on the age of the candidate, however his or her ability will also be a factor for consideration. Progression from either class to our carded ranks will be based upon each candidate successfully completing the six awards on the programme and of course whether the candidate chooses to do so. Our adult class is recommended from 18 years up for anyone wishing to partake in the sport at any level. We also now run women only classes and recommend this class for women aged 18+

Depending on age and the stringent ABA medical requirements, by the time a candidate had completed all six stages of the GB National Boxing Awards Programme, including passing the skills bout contest, the candidate should be in a good position to join the Gateway A.B.C squad and box on the cards should they choose to do so.

Overseen by our qualified coaches, each candidate will take part in regular club sparring session against other members of a similar age, weight and standard, to further develop their skills and competitiveness inside the ring. This will lead to the candidate taking part in registered ABA shows and building up their amateur record against boxers deemed to be of a similar standard and if the candidate keeps working hard and keeps climbing the ladder, who knows where it could take them. As the GB National Boxing Awards motto states ... "Don’t think you can, know you can! !"

Gateway's "carded" boxers have all passed the Essex A.B.A's stringent medical examination enabling them to take part in organised boxing shows around the country. It is a compulsory requirement of the Essex A.B.A that all amateur boxers be carded and their record cards updated following every event that they participate in.
